Story behind the art
As every artwork of mine comes with a story, “Ghusadi” is my narrative for the Gonds who are from the district of Adilabad, Telangana, India. Over a series of week, I have stayed in this village to learn their culture and to seek inspirations for my new culture hunt.

Celebrated over a span of 12 days during the Dussera season (a Hindu festival that celebrates the victory of good over evil), the Ghusadi ritual sees two men, considered God-equivalents, placing peacock feather-hats on their forehead, walking long distances around the village to bless it’s resident with a healthy and prosperous life.

The rituals involves interesting mix of street-play, music, dance (known as Dandari) and an equal amount of artistry in the men’s attire, all captured in intrinsic details in the artworks. I tried my best efforts to show every little details such as use of masks, the color-lit designs that are tied around the peacock feathers for visibility in the night time, ash rubbed on the men’s faces and their long winding journey where women find their prospective bridegrooms as well.
