Story behind the art
Shiva is revered by many names such as, Adiyogi – The Originator of Yoga and Nataraja – The cosmic dancer. Throughout history there have been many interpretations of Shiva by artists around the world, however, this particular portrayal shows Shiva as a family man enjoying a heavenly time with his love Parvathi, Sons Ganesh and Karthikeya.
Parvathi is seen here holding baby Ganesh, next to a resting Tiger whom she often mounts and rides into the battle field. Shiva’s obedient disciple Nandi –The Ox is portrayed in a peaceful sit while keeping an eye out in case of any intrusion. Nandi’s unquestionable loyalty and companionship pleased Shiva and bequeathed himself the name Nandeeshwara which is an amalgamation of his dear acquaintance’s name and the Lord’s name himself. Mouse is often associated with negativity as they destroy crops and cause obstacles when concocting food. By having a mouse as his Mystical Vehicle, Ganesh is illustrated erasing all the negativity, which is why he is often praised with the name Vighna Nayaka – The conqueror of obstacles. At a very young age, Karthikeya has defeated the evil demon which he later transformed into a beautiful peacock which he uses as a Vehicle can be seen in this art. He is seen here in a seated position performing meditation. Each member of this divine family, having defeated all evil and procured peace and prosperity in the galaxy, are shown here having a serendipitous evening. The overall vibe associated with this one is of tranquility and domestic harmony.
